>>10874029We are rapidly depleting our freshwater from both consumption and pollution. The main culprit is industrial agriculture, it both consumes the water and pollutes it with waste runoff. Aeroponics would be able to mitigate both issues, but has enormous energy requirements. Currently the only feasible source of energy for this would be Nuclear Fission plants, but those are extremely expensive and currently carry political stigmas. The problem is that the immediate costs of agriculture are extremely low because you don't have to pay for sunlight, but the long term consequences will eventually catch up to us. We're also running out of topsoil due to a reliance of fertilizers, destruction of habitat, and loss of water. In an ideal future we'd have cheap and portable fusion, which would let us do some pretty silly shit can't afford to do now.
