But most importantly, we also see celibacy within some animal groups. No hetero OR homo sex. It's commonly documented in meerkats. These animals live in large groups, and some of them are designated "care takers". They do not reproduce -- even though they 100% are capable of doing it. They instead, tend to the young, keep watch for predators, and look after the new infants.
Why? Why not fuck and reproduce?
Because they are passively passing their genes be ensuring the most number of meerkats survive. These groups have large numbers of siblings. So, just on some crude genetics, you share ~50% of your DNA with your siblings. And ~25% of your DNA with their off spring. So for every two kids your siblings have, you have essentially passed on your genetics vicariously through them.
Is it as efficient as just reproducing? Obviously not. But ensuring the survival of the entire clan is more important. And if everyone lives, you have essentially passed on your genes too. But if everyone, or even just your siblings die, the line ends. So their role is very important in passing on genes.
What does this have to do with current homosexuality in humans? Who the fuck knows. But, gay people are able to use surrogates.
