If the US just never decides to go into any climate agreements, at least for the foreseeable future, there is nothing any other country can do. Also, since there was never anything to enforce anyways, you're only collecting imaginary points in a game that a country can just choose not to participate in. At least with smaller countries, they can be sanctioned.
China and possibly Russia could also fuck off from these agreements with minimal consequences.
I don't have a good solution to the fairness argument since both sides have their points in their reasoning. All I'm saying is that posturing is useless and I'd rather just commit to something that works rather than let China and India essentially do whatever they want, industrialize, fuck up the climate even more (iirc the US is now #2 in total co2 emissions but #1 per capita), and potentially even surpass the US per capita.
This is completely ignoring the fact that at some point Africa might want to industrialize; if we don't have basically fully efficient, renewable energy by then, it's really game over unless genocide is on the table.
