you might believe the state of being in which information is actively received and processed by our sensory apparatuses is consciousness and we know that these apparatuses can stop working.
If i take a person and make them blind, deaf, paralyze their body and pretty much break every single sensory apparatus hey posses would you say they are still "conscious"?
their body would still function due to the background processes of their brain but you couldn't meaningfully interact with them. Would you say they're still "conscious"?
all animals are conscious in that they exist in a state where information is processed by their sensory apparatuses such that they can interact with their environment and other members of their species.
