are gold's days numbered?

I've heard that there's 1 gram of gold for every 100 tons of water in the ocean and gold is actually floating around the solar system.
My theory is that if gold goes up too high in value, there would be technological breakthroughs that would flood the market. That's kinda what happened when oil hit $5 a gallon. Except gold is mostly in demand as a store of value.

google says there's like 700 trillion bucks worth of gold in the ocean. In reality, it would only be a few trillion if you successfully panned it. The more you extract, the less it's worth and since it's mostly just the value driving demand, nobody would want it.

But this is capitalism and profit is profit, even if you kill the goose that laid the golden egg, no pun intended.
