What mathematician/scientist would be the best fit for a good Hollywood biopic?
I'm thinking pic related for both /sci/ and mainstream appeal. Although I was initially torn between Newton and Euler, both titans in their fields, I believe that Newton would make a better movie for two simple reasons.
First, although both made absolutely massive contributions to the fields, Newton's can mostly be understood by a kindergartener, whereas Euler's big thing (his formula) is fairly unintuitive to someone who doesn't know what a derivative is.
Second, there's juicy drama aplenty in Newton's life—the Leibniz rivalry, the alchemy, the sexuality, the insanity—and that means there can be an actual plot. Euler's life, meanwhile, was only interesting in how uninteresting it was.
So cast it! We need, at the very least, someone for Newton, someone for Leibniz, and someone for Voltaire.
