It seems that you can actually see atoms (the shape) when you face the sun with your eyes closed, if you try this under the right conditions.
how it works: it's simple as shit, the UV radiaton emitted by the sun breaks simple molecules swimming in the occular cavity liquid, resulting in (temporaly) single atoms freely swimming in the medium. The inverted "shadow" or "shape" of the actual atoms would casts in the retina, but since atoms have a spherical shape the inverted image is the same as the real shape, so it doesn't mean shit. You will even see the excited electron cloud waving at high frecuency.
