It's perfectly fine when you have a giant stamp saying FAKE!!!! The problem is when people have a general expectation that photos aren't lying to them. People tend to believe what they see without questioning it. Deepfakes allow us to tell a lie about people without a single word being spoken, a lie more convincing than words alone could ever express.

Not sure. For all ages people have been able to simply draw whoever they want naked in cartoons/realistic paintings/whatever.

Maybe it's the ease of access which makes it so threatening. Maybe it's the "AI" buzzword.
