It was obviously way easier to avoid those when you had to manually put powder and the bullet after every shot, basically making the reload times near a minute or more, also they weren't as accurate, the recoil was terrible and the projectile trajectory was pretty clunky (round bullets) if disturbed by anything, even wind.
These days you can be considered lucky to avoid getting hit by a handgun round out of the entire magazine if you are being chased.
Not even gonna give you a percentage on sub-machine guns and rifles.
I'm pretty sure the people who have avoided bullets just were lucky or the attacker was stupid as hell/shat himself from fear and couldn't fire well.
