Mental focus cycles?

This is sort of a health-related question, but I don't know a better board for it.

Basically, sometimes I feel good, and can focus on things easily. My thoughts are ordered. I can understand logical topics as presented to me. I can talk to people with confidence and purpose, do homework, exercise, and other good stuff.
During those times, I might feel like a cool breeze is blowing over my brain and the back of my neck. My body feels comfortable. Life feels awesome.

Other times, I feel unfocused, sick, dizzy, and tired. I'm unable to focus, I'll stare at a page without reading it. I just want to lie down and zone out, or escape to somewhere. My stomach hurts. I feel aches and pains all over my body. I can't get comfortable. I feel a pressing on my brain and the back of my neck. Life feels like a burden.

I go back and forth between those states roughly every 30 minutes.

I guess that's just what it's like to be alive. Your body and brain are probably constantly adjusting their internal chemistry. I am more likely to be in the good mood if I get lots of sleep, accomplish big things, eat well, and have no stressing responsibilities. I am more likely to feel bad if I have to go to work or do other stuff I don't want to do. But either way, the cycle always continues.

Is this how it is for everyone? Is there any way to stay in the good state? I tried quitting caffeine and alcohol for about 4 months straight. I had fewer highs and lows, but I still had bad moods.

I read about brains having cycles of alpha waves and beta waves; is that true? Those binaural beat things don't seem to work.
