There is a very real possibility that level 5 autonomy could be 20 or 30 years away. We might even need an AGI. There are too many edge cases, road infrastructure sucks, humans are retarded.

Sure there are tons of edge cases, but why would you expect a human to be better equipped to handle them? Even current tech has huge advantages over humans, namely
1. The system has a full view in multiple spectrums
2. It pays attention 100% of the time
3. Once something is learned, an entire fleet can learn the same thing instantly

Google's waymo is a gimmick. It requires human drivers to takeover. If I wanted autonomous driving, I'd take the Tesla cars instead. Atleast I can let the car drive by itself on highways.

Yes, trivially. I didn't know who Lex is because I am a fallible human, and even working in the development of autonomous vehicles, he is irrelevant to my existence as I do not work for that company and couldn't care less what LIDAR shitters are up to. That is a good example of why humans suck and AI is good.
