My first classes use James Stewarts Calculus: Early Transcendentals 8th Edition(9781305272354) and Young & Freedmans University Physics with Modern Physics 14th Edition(9780321973610). Are these good books? I plan on reading through months before.

Sure, if they're used in the courses, it will make everything easier. There are, of course, many other quite satisfactory alternatives, even better.

They're standards for a reason: they've kept up with current pedagogy and turned out a new edition every few years; this results in bloated, clunky books that don't mesh well together. They'll suit a standard course fine, but I always found standard courses lame

I suppose I should use these books only for required homework and study with superior textbooks. I'm not sure what is superior.

For calculus a good supplement is the Schaum's outline to calculus. Tons of solved problems and examples to dig into.

I'm not familiar enough with physics to know good alternatives to Sears and Zemansky; however Arnold Guerra the third (professor at UCI) has many fully solved problems on his website
