is the universe just a culmination of mathematical rules? why do the rules exist? do the rules make the universe, or does the universe make the rules?
why does everything adhere to a model or system? Go down to the rules that govern fundamental particles. The fields they exist in as excitation are just logical representations for the conditions of that excitation to make sense experimentally. But what happens when you look for the cause of such things? Is it even sensible to ask for a cause, or is it just that we process information in a way that limits us to these models? does it go beyond our comprehension or awareness in terms of emergence properties? Is nature as a whole more complex than we are able to really understand at a scientific level?
