What I am familiar with is a current technique which, if it works well en-vivo (which, theoretically, there is no reason it shouldnt, but you never know), will solve that problem completely.
But there's another, much bigger problem, and that is any genomic integration to post-mitotic cells will never be stable, and integration into progenitor cells has extremely low (under 1%) efficiency. If you don't get it at the embryonic stage, any genomic alteration will be like putting a drop of food coloring in a swimming pool and trying to see the color change. Terrible analogy but i hope it gets the point across.
