help me understand Laplace transforms

What I currently know: laplace transforms are a special integral with a f(t) multiplied by e^st being integrated with respect to dt.

next: instead of actually doing the integral, use a table to solve laplace integrals.

then get comfortable with laplace inverses so that when you see a diffy Q, you can 1. take the laplace, then 2. take the laplace inverse.

after that, I'm not sure what the point is. I'm lacking some key insight and feel like an NPC
