I don't have too much to say about this, I'd rather hear what you guys think about phenomena like this. Why are there so many examples of adaptation spinning off into some bizarre, niche direction when it comes to sexual selection? I get that the feedback loop between female preference and genetic selection can be highly unstable and veer off in interesting ways, but it still makes me extremely curious about what's so special in the traits that end up being selected for
Look at those long feathers with little bulbs on the end that swell and shrink around the body as the male dances. Why were females so taken with that visual effect? Why do they gravitate towards certain archetypal motions and visuals?
Don't even get me started on bowerbirds
