Yes you certainly could make the illusion of movement hear travel faster than light. You can achieve the same thing much easier by casting a large shadow.

Say I'm on the moon with a laser pointer and I flick it back and forth across the earth really fast, like 60 times a second. The earth is about 8000 miles wide, the speed of light is 186000 miles a second, so 186/8 = 23.5, 23.5 x2 = light can ideally move 47 times per second from one side of the earth and back. So the dot from my laser pointer is apparently moving across the earth faster than light.

You could make the image scroll faster than the speed of light but only once the information has already been broadcast across the entire machine, which can't happen faster than the speed of light

I think you've lost me, but any method of priming the screen to make an image travel faster than light (which again, is possible) would involve transmitting the information/instructions beforehand, and that transmission would be bounded by lightspeed

You’re retarded, sorry. Yes, the message or dot will technically appear to move faster than the speed of light, but nothing “in” it actually does. The light still needs to travel to earth, and the observer will still need to wait for it to receive the message from the board. Where in this is there information that travels faster than light? People make the same dumbfuck mistake when saying the universe is expanding faster

If we just ignore mechanical constraints you could make text "roll" from side to side faster than light but you couldn't send any information faster than light. It would be just a neat trick. Nothing would really move faster tha light.
