Want to learn the history of math? Do it while you learn math. Otherwise nothing will make sense.
The history isn't nearly as exciting either. There's not really the same type of "sudden breakthroughs" unless you're talking about very specific stories like Ramanujan.

Guess what? Some random indian kid went to Oxford and figured out the size of the Tau function. It's a neat story but it means nothing unless you know what the Tau function even is.

Mathematics needs context for its history, and the philosophies about mathematics developed by modern mathematicians can't be appreciated without prior knowledge about the subject matter
