Is it possible to artificially age an object, say, a hoax artifact, in order to "trick," as it were, one or more empirical methods of dating objects?

I have no plans on creating such a thing but the thought occurred to me that people could potentially be implementing such hoaxes and going undetected, but I wasn't sure if this suspicion had any basis in reality or not, and was hoping someone more informed than myself might have some insight.
