True but corporations tend to follow what algorithms tell them and algorithms tell them that students from higher tier schools tend to bring the company more profits than students from lower tier schools.

Basic risk factors which will always neglect outliers.

That’s not just algorithms. I agree that students from higher tiered schools are generally more profitable, however, that should be evaluated on a case by case basis.

The worst person in a high tier school class is probably less valuable than the best person in a lower tier school, but because of the name the high tier school kid gets the job.

Yes I agree with your logic but corporations all have risk factors since they don't personally know you and well HR probably doesn't care enough, has the time, or can even comprehend that there could be great engineers, scientists, businessmen at lower tier schools.

It's all about efficiency, streamlining, and risk factors.

See the problem is people view it as well if I was the boss I'd go over their resume and see what they actually offer.

But what happens is your the boss and you don't have the time to go over resumes so you push hiring criteria down to the sub boss who doesn't want to fuck up and refines the criteria even more and then passes it to hr who do the sifting

senior level positions ofcourse don't have this issue because experience (usually 10yrs+ and a portfolio) makes your undergrad irrelevant and usually the pool of applicants is smaller so the sub boss can cherry pick demand without hr and then send to the boss for final thoughts (and the subboss/boss likely already know majority of the candidates through nepotism, which is a whole other issue)
