How do I know if I am good at math when working through the foundational material after having ignored it through high school like an NPC and now working on college algebra and pre-calc?

if you are in college algebra and pre-calc, then you are simply not good at math. people who are good at math do differential equations and linear algebra freshman year, or even higher-level stuff

Sounds like a bunch of horseshit to me. I mean if I cared about school and actually put in the work the way I do now perhaps that could have been me but there is no way of knowing now. Are you implying that you have to be a certain age to study math and be good enough to ace and understand all subjects from that point on?

look at it this way, you will have people in the same year as you who are like 2-3 years ahead of you at math and can do much harder math than you, and some of them will continue on in math to graduate school and further. you will never be as good at math as them unless you catch up, which means taking a bunch more math classes each year of undergrad. or self-study like Ramanujan, but if you're worried about pre-calc then i doubt you'd be able to self-study at that level. do you plan on doing that?

That's what I call Abstract Algebra, Noetherian rings, non commutative group theory, non associative algebra, linear algebra, category theory, combinatorics, and Galois theory. You are thinking of high school algebra, aka the basics of manipulating equations in 2 variables to make the picture on the graph move around.

Ofc it is. Most people in college maths aren't going to pursue an academic career in harder mathematics. Most people reach a certain level and have no reason to learn any more unless their profession requires it. If you continue studying, in a few years you will have the same level of maths ability all your colleagues do, excluding any who went specifically for higher level mathematics, engineering and physics. By the end of a regular STEM college degree you are supposed to be able to do algebra in real and complex numbers, understand Laplace and Fourier transforms (Masters), understand matrices, understand differential equations, vector spaces and calculus

It isn't, because I'm in the EU. Part of it is (complex algebra, matrices, basic calculus). Other parts you only get in Licence (ordinary differential equations, laplace transform, vector spaces) degrees or Masters (Fourier transforms, non linear calculus).
By the end of a License degree, you're supposed to understand all of the subjects in high school, and get an intro into a Master's.

So no, our high schools do not teach ODEs of FTs.
