>>10839133Its cultural and genetic, when parents do not engage with their kids from young age in science and maths, even if the kids are capable they develop no interest in these subjects, at later age they might study it at uni but if there is no genuine interest and passion they are studying just to pass and likely wont make any scientific advances. This is also the reason why cs and programming is (or was) so popular, because of kids being exposed to computers and video games. However I think today computers have been dumbed down and phones even more dumbed down, games today are simply too realistic and resemble movies rather than games of 90s and early 2000, with exceptions of games like minecraft, I genuinely believe since its release it has inspired at least several people in architecture/building.
Most if not all white countries are following this trend. Asia has a mentality and cultural heritage of making their children study so they have better opportunities in life, while this is still not perfect like parents simply spending (a lot more) time with their kids instead of shit parents do these days from just vegetating on the couch, watching tv to going drinking while kids are just left alone to do whatever, its better than what is happening in white countries.
My parents grew up in soviet system and at that time at school, if someone misbehaved, didnt listen to teacher, disturbed the class, the principal would be called, the parents would be called, it would be a big embarassment for everyone and there would be a smacking later on. If situation didnt improve, theyd be expelled and sent straight to trade schools which were strict af, or worst to communal farms to do hard labour.
It wasnt perfect but the school system worked, people who werent interested in studies went straight to trade, the ones that did were taught in classrooms that actually challenged them even harder, unlike today where needs of the lowest common denominator are most important.
