Einstein would hold mental meetings with imaginary characters or people he was studying by verbally talking out this meeting with himself as chairman.
Tesla would spend time mentally visualizing out machines, eyes open and close. Reach around trying to shape it with his hands. Would try to hear it, smell it, look through it, feel it in his head.
