I sadly haven't had much to do with the sciences since high school.

But I'm interested in reading some of the latest explanations of consciousness, specifically those informed by neurobiology, neuroscience, cognitive science, etc.

Who are some of the more prominent figures I should look into. Is pic related a good start?

100% of that work is bullshit., even if you spent trillions of years """reasearching""" the cold hard truth is that theres no way to proof or demonstrate conciousness, all we know is that we experiencfe it, we have no way of determing if the rest are biological zombies,

we dont know what cuases it, we dont know if some or all animals are concious, we dont know shit and never will, all """speculations""" regarding it is false shit that serves no purpose,

to even put it in the same level as resarch of other usefuul topics like curing medicine and space rockets is presposterous, 1 day of space rocketry research provides more real results that infinity research onto this non subject.

As most will probably recommend, "Consciousness Explained" by Dennett is a classic. Also by Dennett (and Hofstadter) is one called "The Mind's I", that's a little different

Another really good book, imo, on consciousness that might interest you is one called "The Roots of Consciousness", which is more of a general overview

How do you define conciousness?

Being aware of your surroundings?
Then it's just sensory processing and even bacteria become consious. Remember we don't know what dark matter or dark energy is and those make up the majority of our universe. Are even we really consious?

yes, im absolutely 100% sure im concious

and no, i have no feasible way of proving it becuas its an experience i cant show its just something htat exists in me.

its the difference between a me that experiences something that feels, all the sensory input goes somewhere

the difference would be with a robot that acts exactly like me but is only machine

the thing is, everyone knows himself to be concious, taht is a 1940891402% certainty, they hve no way of proving it to others or knowing they are concious, but they can suspect that because of the similarities others may experience the same

Inferring that animals have consciousness is probably just as reasonable as how we originally inferred that things like atoms, electron and protons given how those discoveries were actually made.
