At the time you either had film cameras(stills or motion picture) which had to be developed in a dark room, or TV video, which had the benefit of being able to be broadcast-able over radio waves, but hugely inferior quality, and the only way to record them at the time was literally filming a TV screen or a giant expensive, room size VCR. So all the live TV broadcasts look like this

The was not just true of the moon landing but for everyone. People brought cameras to places and when they got home had to get the pictures developed before they could actually see them. Recording high quality TV video wasn't really possible until around the 1970s and not really affordable to consumers until the betamax and VHS came along.
