I don’t care for trigonometry

I’ve startrd school and been in and out for a while due to getting sick and needing to transfer nearer home not transferring my scholarship.
But I realized I really don’t care for trigonometry at all. Or rather, I’m god awful at remembering the unit circle and trig behaviors. Does /sci/ have anything to help with recommending it?

Also I realized I’ve never particularly liked mathematics but fuck if I take this long to graduate with an English degree.

You don't need to remember the unit circle.

You just need to remember 2pi rad is equal to 360 degrees and you can work out any angle you want from there.

360/2 = 180 degrees

2pi/2 = 180 degrees

360/4 = 90 degrees

360/4 = 90 degrees

360/360 = 1 degrees

2pi/360 = 1 degrees

You mean like Chief Soh Cah Toa?
S = sin(angle)
C = cos(angle)
T = tan(angle)
o = side Opposite of angle
a = side Adjacent to angle
h = Hypotenuse (side opposite of right angle)

Soh => sin(angle) = o/h
Cah => cos(angle) = a/h
Toa => tan(angle) = o/a

They're just functions, like in programming. You give trig Sin() or Cos() input, they give output. Real number trig absolutely sucks but you have to learn learn it, if you don't then you can learn Rational trig which is dead simple and doesn't require any decimals or angles. http://www.math.brown.edu/~dkatz/trigbootcamp/

A circle is a shape where all points are of equal distance from the center.
This distance is called the radius of the circle.
In the unit circle, the radius is 1.
Every point on the circle can be described in terms of a right triangle, with a hypotenuse length of 1. (pic related)
Since cosine and sine are adjacent/hypotenuse and opposite/hypotenuse respectively, and the hypotenuse of the unit circle is 1, the base of the triangle is cos(t) and the height of the triangle is sin(t). (t is the angle in radians) (the number of radians in a given angle is the same thing as the number of radii that you could lay around the boundary of a circle tip to tail before reaching your angle point)
It's a right triangle, so the pythagorean theorem applies.
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
sin(x)^2 + cos(x)^2 = 1^2
This is the first trig identity
Dividing by cosine squared gives
\frac{sin(x)^2}{cos(x)^2} + \frac{cos(x)^2}{cos(x)^2} = \frac{1}{cos(x)^2}
sine over cosine is the definition of tangent, and 1 over cosine is the definition of secant, so:
tan(x)^2 + 1 = sec(x)^2
etc.
You should get the point by now enough to derive most of what you need in trig

If you use it often enough it becomes second nature. I am in calculus 2 now and the trig stuff is second nature now. When you decide you "don't care for" trigonometry and try to avoid it and reject it, it will never get any easier.

And I have been out of school for a longer time than you without having properly learned trig back when I was a kid. It took less than a year of doing math on and off for me to get relatively comfortable with it.
