>>14367862yep, it's a weird feeling seeing the death of an industry. Although I'm unsure if I just feel this disappointment because of the lies that are told in college. "Work on interesting solutions", "make a difference", etc. it's all a big fib to get workers for an industry that works you raw and tells you to get the fuck out once you become old. I legitimately feel sad when I hear people are studying CS now. They're always so full of life, so many ideas that will surely change the world, chatting about their cool classes... I miss that blissful ignorance.
>>14367853My college had like 2 pure theory classes. To really get into theory you'd need to do a PhD and do research under a professor being paid to study this stuff. To get a PhD, you now need hundreds of thousands of dollars. Do you really want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars just to study theory? Also, the amount of people being paid to research pure theory is pretty low compared to other theory-adjacent fields because there isn't nearly as much money to be made.
