>>14346236I'm asking you to define what "consciousness" is. Where I get confused is that when I hear people describe it it seems to include everything from the capacity to experience things, identify not just simple colors, but shapes, and even objects, but also self-awareness (which implies having a complicated capacity for object recognition that allows an organism like a human to firstly conceive of a symbol such as the 'self' and to distinguish that from it's environment). So what I'm asking is: what is consciousness NOT?
>Why won't I use the word 'imaginary' to describe something that literally only ever happens in your mind by definition? Nothing "computes" anything. How is that supposed to help me?
A computer calculates numbers. What the fuck does that have to do with 'imagination'!? You say it "by definition" means imagination but let's look at some definitions of "compute"
>To determine by mathematics, especially by numerical methods: synonym: calculate.>to determine by calculation; reckon; calculate: >to determine by using a computer or calculator.>To determine an amount or number.> to calculate (an answer, result, etc)Now just for comparison, let's look at the word imagination
> The ability to form mental images of things that are not present to the senses or not considered to be real> the faculty or action of producing ideas, esp mental images of what is not present or has not been experiencedHow is this in any way related. Don't answer that though until you answer what consciousness is.
if you don't do it in the next reply, I'll assume you don't even know.
