I'm directly defending Russia's actions by saying that if a powerful national adversary starts arming and training your neighbors, then you have the right to militarily intervene to prevent those countries from being further armed and from aligning with this adversary.
Whataboutism does not apply because I am not deflecting blame or saying that what Russia is doing is okay because America did X bad thing. I am directly stating that what Russia did is okay and providing a reason for why I believe that. My reasoning is that countries have the right to militarily intervene in neighboring countries if adversarial nations are arming, training, and aligning with these neighbors. If an enemy nation is engaging in military activities and alliances with your neighbors, then you have the right to take action against those neighbors.
Again, you might disagree with that claim, and perhaps you don't think that a military intervention is justified under those circumstance, and you have the right to that belief, but my what I am saying is not an instance of whataboutism.
