Tented greenhouses would work for a very significant portion of land that is currently permafrost. They would simply trap more heat from the Sun annually and cause the permafrost underneath to thaw. Even an average temperature increase of just a few degrees would be enough to change unfarmable land into farmable land across hundreds of thousands of square kilometers of Siberia. The bigger the greenhouse, the better the effect, too. This is without considering l
things like scattering bits of charcoal and other very dark materials across the ground inside the greenhouses to trap additional heat, nor actively using heat pumps and geothermal heat storage to keep the tented areas from going into deep-freeze conditions in winter.
Actually tents would be really effective in deserts too, since they'd block desiccating winds and trap humidity while also letting you moderate temperatures and light intensity.
