This simulation assumes no clouds. Earth's axial tilt makes is to that resolution in 2 dimensions can be achieved as opposed to the first pic.
For the Trappist system the orbits are edge on and there is no axial tilt (the planets are tidally locked) you can still infer if there is an eyeball structure to the planets using the first method
