Dumb people can live with good habits, and intelligent people know the importance of good habits. It's when you're in the middle where people either ignore their bad habits or can't plan ahead to see the consequences of their daily actions in the future.
In my personal eyes, being conservative means that you follow tradition since it's worked fine in the past. Saying that traditions and God should be done away with since they don't make sense to you, is a midwit-tier level of decision making.
True critical thinking and enlightenment lie closer to present-day conservatism than most people realize.
