Yes, this is absolutely the truth.
You go to one AA meeting and its like therapy for all the monstrosities and fucked up decisions of the past of those individuals.
Suicide attempts; rape / orgy victims; sexual identity crisis; ex-criminals; people with all types of OCD, POCD, HOCD, etc; Anxiety; Depression; Addiction, etc.

If psychiatry is not the solution, I don't know what the fuckng solution would be. Round them up like jews inside a camp ? I guess you could use the amazing """"""psychwards""""
Now, psychwards is a WHOLE another level of pure HELL.

I'm just talking about the drugs. Basically with drugs the psychiatrists are using the ol' troubleshoot break fix method with a human. Someone comes in with a consistent mood problem or emotional problem, psychiatrist uses past experience to say 'this drug might work, lets try it' and if it doesn't then they try another. If the patient feels better after taking it, they chalk it up as a win. Although of course one can never be 100% sure it isn't placebo or coincidence due to this being real life and not a controlled experiment.

One might say the drugs are just indirectly the same thing as ECT, changing brain chemistry to change human thought and behavior, just in a less offensive form. Are we just biological robots without any real control over how we behave? A good case can be made for it given examples of people with damage to areas of the brain leading to behavior and personality changes.

Not only that's NOT TRUE , but also that's not how science and medicine works, that's called anecdotal evidence and you can't draw any conclusion from it , otherwise doctors would also prescribe prayers and essential oils because some patients reported that it helped them and are happy with it , you larper

how long did the supposed effects lasted ? how long did the treatment lasted ? were the doses similar ?
what was the age and gender of the patients ? and what about the side effects ?

most of the trials are small and old, the data are limited , and it definitively doesn't prove that ECT help or improve anything in the long term
Some studies weren't even using the same diagnostic criteria for major depression

What are some examples of treatments which are still used by doctors in the US/Canada, Western Europe and Australia/NZ which don't have any real strong evidence to support their usage and yet are still used?
I remember reading about menopause treatments recently and it seems like a lot of them are just based on placebos, I think vagina lasering has come under scrutiny?
