When I was about 17 years old, I had this phase when I wanted to refine gold from old electronics.
Surprisingly concentrating 38% sulfuric acid by boiling it over open flame in a pickle jar or distilling nitric acid using 2 beer bottles connected together with duct tape didn't result in any accidents apart from the acid eating some holes in my pants.
Then I was using bunch of hydrochloric acid for dissolving that electronics in very large pickle jar on electric cooker outside in our yard. Well, the jar broke and we had huge blue stain (with some pieces of gold plating sprinkled in) on our concrete driveway. Thankfully the cooker was commie made all metal enamel coated with cast iron heating pads, so I could just clean it and return it to my grandmum who even said that it looked even cleaner than before I borrowed it(didn't tell her about the hot acid shower). Unfortunately I didn't get even a microgram of gold out of it, since I just created bunch of contaminated solutions of all kinds of metals together and I didn't know what the fuck I was doing. In the end I realized that I should have just sold all the old CPUs, RAMs, chips and all that to some other idiots on those same websites where I bought them.
