>>13691606This is a fair question, and it actually has a rational answer (besides "I like it"): Alcohol lowers inhibitions, makes people vulnerable and more likely to let their guard down. It makes people say what they think. This all probably sounds bad and not very advantageous to the drinker, except for one key point: letting your guard down around people is a way to build trust with that person. An utter psycho might be able to conceal their true nature from you when sober, but let all the cues slip when drunk. If somebody is unwilling to drink with you, that can be interpreted as them having something to hide (which is unfair to recovering alcoholics.) The opposite also applies; if somebody is willing to drink with you, that suggests a degree of trust and willingness to be open about themselves.
