Starship tiles are basically a custom TUFROC, that was developed for X37 and it isn't even a direct development fork since they were developed in house so that's a double fail.

New Shepard will never be profitable as a program, even at 1mil per seat and going to 6 passengers. They could fly a flight a week that price at max capacity and still be in the red a decade later. And they've launched once a year on average.
BO and Virgin talking about scientific uses is a joke too. What can you accomplish in 3-4min of microgravity on a rocket or spaceplane that you can't on a vomit comet?
I have a relative that worked at NASA and that's exactly how they tested their project for a system on one of the Mars rovers.
I could be totally wrong but I don't see that much benefit to 3-4 min of microgravity vs 1

Based on the total Blue Origin funding of $5.5B and stated $2.5B New Glenn development costs to date, New Shepard development probably cost around $1B. At $1M/passenger, 6 passengers/flight, 52 flights/year, they would make that money back in 3.5 years. Take into account launch costs, operational costs, and taxes and they'd probably be just about breaking even come 2030

Where are you getting these numbers from? Ive always heard significantly higher money per anum pumped into BO by Bezos, more like 4x as much, which is all speculation anyways since its not public. And its all sunk costs, they recouped a few million here and there but thats nothing
Even at 1 mil a seat, which they wont get, its not happening at 1 flight per week. I used that to point out how ridiculous it is regardless of how many paying suckers they can find
Its money down the drain that theyll never recover. Luckily for them Bezos can keep selling Amazon stock to keep it going. I hope they learned a whole lot about building and launching and landing rockets
I really do hope they produce something of value, its just not looking like it so far. I could care less about Bezos and would prefer that he had died today, but if his company eventually does something useful or groundbreaking that would be great.

It would be nice to BO break into other areas besides launch vehicles and propulsion. If Bezos is really bought into the O'Neill gimmick, where's the investment into extraplanetary infrastructure? Off world vehicles. ISRU. Comms. Energy generation and storage. Extraplanetary construction and fabrication. Soon we will have massive launch vehicles but nothing of value to launch.

Not sure I buy it. Sure, he's greedy, but I don't think he'd sabotage himself when he's not the market leader. Amazon is willing to absorb losses to strangle competition, but that's because they get the market share after the competition has folded.

That's not the case here. SpaceX is much more threatening than ULA, and he doesn't stand to capture the rest of the market if he torpedoes old space.

You're forgetting multiple source federal contracts. If ULA goes under, Blue Waffle and SpaceX win every heavy lift multiple source contract by default for at least ten years. Amazon has played federal contractor long enough for him to be aware of that little trick. Between those, Amazon's Kuiper constellation, and Bezos's own spinhab plans that's enough to bootstrap up to fully reusable rockets assuming they ever get FFSC right.

You make a compelling argument. Consider me a little more red-pilled on this topic.

I think New Glenn is an odd position. It's payload is way less than Starship. They haven't done any work on orbital refueling so their range is really limited. At the same time, its payload is large enough that it's overkill for the vast majority of current demand. Maybe payloads for federal gibs will increase in response to the new offerings, but it'll be years before the feds even begin drafting those proposals.

Bur that doesn't rule out thwm gwttinf some poek thrown thwir way. Just like with navy and air force projects theyll spread some money around to keep multiple sources afloat as opposed to putting all eggs in one basket
Most definitely agree, if ULA is out of thr way BO would be seeing some contracts. SLS will probably keep getting funded regardless but any way you cut it theyll want more than one private developer having the resources to keep going
