My parent make me pick this major and also my successful cousins told me too

It depends on what exactly you want to do and what you want to get out of it. If you want to continue with ODEs, then you might follow along one of the books

Each of them require a varying amount of real analysis, and mathematical sophistication. The book by Walter uses some results from measure theory, so you might have to either accept it as a black box, or take some time learning analysis and then measure theory.
If you instead want to head down the road of partial differential equations, then depending on how brave and masochistic you are, you might follow the books
>Partial Differential Equations: An Introduction by Strauss
>Partial Differential Equations by Evans
>Introductions to Partial Differential Equations and Hilbert Space Methods
These books require a some analysis, though the one by Strauss is a bit more friendly.

Really, if you want to do math like a mathematician, you should learn some analysis, topology, differential geometry and algebra. If you just want the math for EE, then I would guess you already have a decent amount of it. Perhaps if your interest is signal processing, then some algebra and measure theory would be handy.

High workload is bullshit, there are a lot of EEs that get away fucking around all day. Most EEs are just really motivated/passionate about what they do, so they stay-in late, work long hours etc. You have to understand that being an EE for a lot of us is not just work but our hobby as well.

Ah yes, I remember my hobby building integrated circuits at age 10. I never once stepped outside or enjoyed a good movie. I simply could not race my RC car, I had to break it because autism. Yessir all engineers must be one-dimensional dilberts.

I'm an EE. My advice is to study all the mandatory subjects. You'll learn more math than and physics than the average engineer. That suck and if you comply without knowing anything you are doing it wrong.
I bet you are on your late teens, keep in mind you'll probably work on it for the next 50 years, and no one can guarantee it will be always profitable or just profitable. No one can know if you'll be richer or poorer than now just because you chose a major, but at least you can choose a career that will make you happy. That's the right way to do it.

Like xilinx? they run on most machines. It turns out that EEs and CS need the smallest machines at uni ironically. Of course a few rams and a bit of processing speeds up when you have multiple windows open. I don't know how it works with linux. If you go to uni, chances are you will be expexted to use Windows-based programs generally, although if i remember correcly my digital systems prof used linux.

Quite a few. At my university, topics such as machine learning, computer vision, and systems programming concepts like cloud and parallel computing are actually taught through the ECE program rather than CS program. Regardless, a knowledge of data structures is essential to land a CS job, so you’ll want to either get a minor or self study those topics.

Electric current was originally defined as the 'movement' of positive particles. But later we looked into the atom and it turned out those positive particles are the stationary ones and the negative ones move. So it's the opposite direction. Also electrons don't move like a fluid so this entire argument is pointless.

Already started self studying through teachyourselfcs.com and working my way through SICP, though progress might become slow soon as my schedule is about to fill up with college and other things. If I demonstrate the required CS knowledge, and whoever is doing the hiring is competent enough to recognise it, what is the limit to the CS jobs I could land? what doors does not having a CS degree close off no matter how knowledgeable you are?

I think once you feel comfortable programming 8-bit chips in C you can branch off anywhere with solid fundamentals. I've taken this path too and I don't regret it. Anyways sorry if my posts came off a bit prescriptive but it's triggering to see new students being recommended things that set them up for discouragement and failure.

I'm only a couple of years into industry work (radar signal processing algorithms) after a Bachelor's in EE and I've already forgotten 95% of everything I learned in college that isn't directly related to my work. In addition, I've learned even more about related topics than I'd probably get in a Phd program.
What I'm saying is that you'll end up specializing once you get a job, so figure out which class you really like and go full speed into specializing in it.
I did that and literally the first application I sent out I got interviewed and hired for.

If you're interest in money, don't do this. It's a very specialized field with very little competition. The employers will fuck you over with their salaries since you can't exactly go somewhere else. IF you're gonna study EE, might as well go with CE, more jobs, more flexible, higher pay and quite frankly easier

An arduino is definitely not a "toy". You can take the chip out and add your own capacitor/resistors and other circuit component and you can literally manually flash it with switches and a push button for the clock. It is easy to use, but you can turn it into a night mare if you wanted to. Definitely one of the best things out there to learn how MCU works for a beginner.

You're the retard here. Even in physics you assume conventional current in some fields. It has to do with physicists in the past being absolute dunces thinking current is the movement of positive charges. It just stuck around and instead of rewriting the entire field of physics, they just named the old way of looking at it "conventional current". I'm just talking about salary. If you like it then by all mean stay in it. It's just it's hard to find a job. I know EE, CE and ME who ended up just doing coding after graduating. You might have to move if you want to find a job in that specific field depending on where you live. If you care about money though, definitely switch to CE, since it's more flexible, you can move around from hardware to software or anywhere in between, giving you more options and better salaries.

You used to be able to do that in the past, but CE is becoming more and more it's own field, especially with AI and all that stuff now. There is a lot of thing in CE today that aren't taught in EE. You can definitely find a CS/CE job with EE still, but it's a lot harder than if you had a CE/SE/CS degree.

From my naive understanding CE deals more with digital logic, micros, DSP, where EE has a better understanding of circuit design, board layout, and physical aspects of electronics. I prefer the latter in addition to what I described earlier so that's why I chose EE.

The limits are based off your experience. If you have a lot of projects/jobs that demonstrate you can handle a career in CS then you will get CS jobs. Otherwise, it will be an uphill battle.

CE undergrad here. Any recommendations for quickly self-learning the basics of circuit analysis and signal processing? I seriously regret taking a class on that subject during the summer where everything was online and barely got any hands-on experience, and then passing after bombing tests because grades were grossly inflated. Wasn't long before I realized how much I was set back due to having a poor understanding of the material, so I had to push back a class on electronics by a term. Any book recommendations / online resources will help. Thanks.

You need Fourier theory, and you won't be able to even understand that without a solid background in linear algebra, measure theory and functional analysis. You'll also need some complex analysis. You can get started with reading Real and Complex Analysis by Rudin, and Functional Analysis also by Rudin. If those two books are too hard, you can start out with Principles of Mathematical Analysis by Rudin. For Fourier analysis, the book by Stein and Weiss, Introduction to Fourier Analysis on Euclidean Spaces. You'll also need a book on statistics and on ergodic theory, so Theory of Statistics by Schervish and An Introduction to Ergodic Theory by Walters will be good. Furthermore, differential equations and dynamical systems are essential; you'll get a good understanding of both of these from the book Differential Equations, Dynamical Systems and an Introduction to Chaos by Hirsch, Smale and Devaney. They even dedicate a whole chapter to the application to circuit theory. Additionally, Evan's book Partial Differential Equations will be important, since the other book doesn't go over PDEs. For signal processing, you will find more algebraic structures popping up, so a solid book on algebra will help out. I recommend Lang's Algebra. Furthermore, you will find a bit of number theory will make things clearer, so Serre's A Course in Arithmetic will be good - this book is relatively short, so you'll fly through it. Next, to understand how circuits actually work, you need to understand the theory of electromagnetism. For this, Classical Electrodynamics by Jackson will do good. To understand circuits with semiconductors, you will need a good grounding in quantum mechanics and solid state physics, so I recommend Quantum Mechanics: A Modern Development by Ballentine and Introduction to Solid State Physics by Kittel.
Now with these prerequisites under your belt, you will be able to start learning some circuit analysis and signal processing. Good luck!
