The "trauma" the assassin goes through
>>4002125There is this revolution that overthrows the Empire, and at a certain point in the story the prince is kidnapped, tortured, and brainwashed by the revolutionaries. They want to install him on the throne, having been brainwashed into being their leader, so that the Revolution will have an apparently legitimate claim to the throne. Hence the brainwashing.
The assassin is sent to rescue the prince, discovers the prince having been tortured and brainwashed, and the prince asks the assassin for a mercy killing. Which he grants.
Through some bullshit the Prince comes back to life. Actually in an android body.
The assassin represses his memory of having killed the prince, the prince, reconstituted as an android, has no memory of the horrible things that happened to him, and so the assassin takes him into hiding and tries to protect him from the revolution and give him a happy life, while forcing himself to forget that he had killed the prince, and that the prince was in such a state that he asked him to do it.
/cm/ gays might not like this, but a woman comes on the scene (a genetic engineer, like the Emperor) who becomes the assassin's love interest. She eventually decides she loves him, and his infertility is no problem to her, given what she can do with DNA as a scientist.
The prince does question whether he's gay, and falls for an androgynous android.
The prince does eventually, even as a robot, awaken to his magical abilities, and is able to turn his android friend "real" and I plan to leave it ambiguous as to whether his friend is a boy or a girl.
I'd write a more overtly gay story, but I think platonic intimacy between the prince and his knight, and then this "is his android friend a boy or a girl?" ambiguity are as far as I feel I can take the gay with current politics.
