>>3263717It wasn't that they forbid him from speaking so much as the logistics of getting a script approved and booking the voice actor ended up being too costly, so they cut that part. It's understand able that CNN wanted to ok their character's lines, and they probably would have been cool with whatever he was going to say, but Gorillaz didn't have the resources to make it happen. The only restrictions they gave were that Ace couldn't buy prostitutes or do drugs, and also that they wanted to approve the script.
This phase had a very 2doc, almost heartwarming conclusion, a bunch of fun interviews and conversations with the characters (although almost nothing with voice acting) and it gave us an insight into 2D's head via his journal. A lot of the fun this phase came from the #freemurdoc campaign, where fans could have conversations with chatbots imitating Murdoc and Noodle as part of a plot to break Murdoc out of jail. It's over now, and you won't be able to chat with the bot, but I'm sure you can find the convos somewhere to catch up. If that sounds good to you than it's worth it.
However, a lot of fans are upset with this phase because it teased a lot of cool ideas without going anywhere with them. There's the matter of Ace leaving without ever saying a word, and also the fact that they were hinting hard the whole phase that 2D's soul was taken or he was possessed, but it's all turned out to be nothing. Personally, I think there were too many clues for the whole thing to have been a red herring. I'm still hopeful that the secret project will pick back up on that plot line. We still don't know who HIM was referring too.
