Has anyone suggested Poppy Z Brite's stuff? I read her books in high school and recently re-listened to the audiobooks,
Lost Souls kinda comes first chronologically. It's about vampires and there's some pedo tones to it. Idk, I was ok with it in high school because I was also that age, but as an adult it's a little uncomfortable. If you're cool with a 14 year old and adult and implied sex scenes, you might enjoy the book. Also, I just really like her writing in general, it's very poetic and descriptive. She's excellent at describing grimy settings, to the point where you want to take a shower.
Drawing Blood was the one I liked more. I also really really liked the narrator, Matt Godfrey. Even if you don't care for the book, you should listen to a sample of his narration, he's got a wonderful voice imo. This is about two boys who meet up in Missing Mile, NC, basically get married, and there's a murder case, dark spirits, etc. Lots of gay, lots of weird crazy drug shit going on, lots of weird domestic violence and abuse.
I've also been re-listening to Heather Brewer because YA shit is easy to process (I listen to audiobooks at work), so I've been binging the Vladimir Tod series. I mention it because while it's not explicitly MM, it's definitely got some hints of it. The best example I can give is the main character, Vlad, has a girlfriend who he basically dates for the aesthetic (she talks in a "girly way" and he kinda bitches about her going into detail the way girls do, shit like that, but he looooves her pink fluffy aesthetic, chocolate brown hair, pink sugary lips, he just doesn't want to listen to her). He even goes to a semi-formal dance with her at school, but then he can't get his mind off his best friend, Henry. Kinda gay if you squint lol.
Last one I'll mention is Rhys Ford, who writes straight up gay shit. I like her Kai Gracen series the most, since it's adventure with a side of gay, which is apparently hard to find.
