Who knows how much liberties they'll take with the original story, but I expect it'll end up somewhere between Tales of Zestiria, where the main characters are very close but their relationship remains unclear until they were declared to be romantically involved by word of god, and No.6 where the main characters were obviously romantically involved but it's never quite stated overtly(at least in the anime).
Still, from the trailers it looks great. Looking forward to it no matter what.
