I don't think either series was particularly well-written, nor did they have exceptionally well-written characters, although both were character driven. I wasn't taking issue with Kado being compared favorably to YoI, but YoI to Kado. Anyway, Kado had an extremely interesting premise, and although the two main characters were more or less familiar archetypes, neither of whom were expounded upon particularly deeply, their dynamic was a fascinating one.
But yeah, I do think most people agree that Kado had some good shit going for it before it turned out to just be shit. I've been disappointed by a lot of anime, but Kado ranks quite high in going low.

A lot of anime have disappointing endings but there was such an unusual amount of potential flushed down the toilet with this one. It was almost like going out of its way to punish fans for caring about the story. "You were invested in these people and story? Haha IDIOT. FUCK YOU".

Kado did feel like a punishment. Both for us, the audience, and for zaShunina and Hanamori. Even for Tsukai, by the end.

But that wasn't what Shindo wanted, so it's still shit.

The new ending wasn't a new ending at all, they just chopped off a bunch of stuff without bothering to fill in the blanks. Couple that with how they still left in the flashbacks of the Shindo/Tsukai date, and it comes off like a bad edit done by a butthurt fujo. I can't decide if the fact that it's actually official backpedaling makes it better or worse.

Other than being a date, it was a fairly important plot-progressing conversation they had which was important to informing what Shindo did later, so I can understand that decision.

Eh, I have mixed feelings about some of these. Still it's always nice for the hetfaggotry to get btfo. Though then again not really since Yukika still exists in some dimension somewhere (probably in the parallel world where the tv series continuity is real) and talks to zaShunina through his dream 1:38:10.
But at least Hanamori got his lifespan back.

I completely agree, there were some pretty important plot points mixed in with hetshit. The result is gayer but also has less depth.
It was nice of them to try I guess, but the TV series is still superior on every level.
