>>3194521>TanukiPersonal preference? He was originally classed as a tachi and “downgraded” to an uchigatana, so maybe the length of his actual sword has something to do with it.
>MicchanHe’s taking a similar appearance to his former owner, Date Masamune, who also only had one eye.
>ManbaHe says the saniwa calls him beautiful; he himself doesn’t think he is. That implies he thinks he’s ugly. And for all we know, he could be talking about the sword, not his physical manifestation.
>Yamabushi + Yagen, Akashi, etc. This actually contradicts that theory, but we could chalk it up to it being personal preference for the latter in that they think glasses look good (has it been canonically confirmed in-game that the ones with glasses have bad eyesight?) or may have something to do with their former masters having bad eyesight.
For Yamabushi, a similar question would be why not Kashuu just appear as someone totally immaculate instead of always working toward it. My answer would be maintaining the appearance. Since they have physically manifested, that means their bodies can be injured, become sick, and all the normal workings of a human body. So even if Yamabushi has the best muscles, they could technically still atrophy when unused. While Kashuu can appear perfect, his look would still be affected by becoming dirty, chipping his nail polish when fighting, etc.
There are probably many contradictions to that last theory (like how the swords don’t age) but I felt I thought too much about it so I’ll end it there.
