The newest series is actually pretty fine lately, but its Kitaro is a total downer. There's no real entry to seasons 1-5 without knowing moon since subbed releases are either very scarce or crappy, but there's still enough to sample them all. The 90s series is commonly well liked and loyal in tone, I like it as well. The 80s series misses the mark with its action tone and characters imho.
