Kaname is better. It's obvious why he's better once you read the manga. Zero is an emo loser who never understands anything and sulks all day. Kaname had a worse life than Zero and literally does everything to protect Yuuki and that even means if he has to make her hate him for the rest of his life. Kaname was also the most badass and wasn't infected by some nasty ass disease the entire story.
