I like both Kane-san and Hori, but I too would like to see them spending their time with others more often. Hanamaru showed me how fun unexpected interactions between swords are, and it also helps a character to avoid getting stuck into the same role forever. Like, Hori is super cute but his wingman obsession with Kane-san can get tiring, so I prefer seeing him with his brothers.

That's not the case. Sayo nor Hotarumaru have that strangeness. I think Taikogane's proportions might seem for a number of design reasons but most prominently his hands-behind-the-head pose (with a huge head and small arms). Being displayed at an angle, rather than standing straight on his base like the others, doesn't help either.

I agree that he doesn't sound truly annoyed with Shizukagata. I don't expect anything like Hachisuka to Nagasone levels of disapproval. They seem to have the potential to be charmingly complimentary as opposites, the graceful and cool-headed Tomoegata with the presumably lively "unrefined" Shizukagata.

I'm starting to realise I only like saniwa OC when they're unusual running gags or if they directly highlight a sword's key traits. For example, the hot blooded tomboy who goes with Doudanuki, or womanlet saniwa with hairclips who makes Nihongou look like he's kidnapping a schoolchild. There's so many bland girl next door designs that it's easy to say saniwa OCs in general are boring and not worth your time, but sometimes there's instances where it makes good art of the sword involved. I like some Pixiv original characters so if they made a more interesting saniwa OC I could probably come to like them, but people play it too safe.

I think my favorite saniwa design will always be the mysterious litter picker with a ribbon. They didn't just make a shy saniwa, they wrote gags around the swords interacting with it. That makes it feel like it has a place in the citadel with everyone else.

Because the swords are already paired up, it's easier to find good porn of them when needed than sifting through OC material. Two swords going at it on saniwa's command is better than self insert too.

I’ve always wondered about how much of a say the artists get overall. I’ve just concluded that DMM probably gives the artists creative freedom apart from certain details (e.g. Mikazuki’s design obviously has to be based on a crescent shape, Tsurumaru’s main color definitely needed to be white) after giving a gist of how they picture the character’s appearance and personality based on historu (e.g. Ishi should look calm and like he belongs in a shrine, Sayo needs to look rather beat-up and is hellbent on revenge). Then when they receive the final designs and are satisfied with it is when they scout for voice actors that would suit the sword’s personality and design.

Of course, this is all just my assumption so if anyone could shed some more light on the topic please do; I’ve been wondering about this process for a long time.
