>>3185806Hanamaru citadel was not prepared for real issues, it's a bit like throwing someone from a gritty drama serial into a kids cartoon full of magical fluffy kittens. They even have the kittens. The fandom Nihongo is sometimes a responsible uncle figure, maybe a little out of his depth but someone who'll talk it through seriously, with the strength to restrain someone if necessary. But you're right, I tend to see him being that way with younger tantou in fanworks, while he's always offering Fudou more drinks. They only have him back off when Fudou's kiwame'd.
Souza I hadn't considered. Would his opinion of Nobunaga offend Fudou too much? He certainly has a fierceness that would make him pay attention, and Hanamaru has made him into a really maternal figure. It could work!
>characterization that's only been briefly mentioned in official materialIt's because of that I get the nagging feeling I'll go too far in the wrong direction, but also why I want to hear what others have thought of, because there has to be stuff I haven't. Certain swords in a certain citadel is a great excuse for different developments but I do want to make sure I'm using the same starting base from the game. It's easy to forget things or follow one version over others.
>>3185807Hanamaru Yagen is kind of frivolous in comparison, but if Fudou fucked up saniwa's orders then Katsugeki Yagen would be more likely to personally call him out and force him to face his problems. They both experienced the fire that is the source of Fudou's trauma, so people pair them together like they can relate. If your Yagen is the citadel doctor too, he could escalate things into an intervention after Fudou's drunken walks incur too many minor injuries.
In the end Fudou still has to sort himself out, and it's Nobunaga who can get through to him, so all my ideas are like crude bullying to yank him out of his stagnation and move forward.
