I think Robert and Mary were friends beforehand, and this is a big reason why Robert's so pissed off. He's not just mad at Joseph for failing to commit to him, he's mad at himself for fucking a married guy.

What I really don't get is all the Robert love vs Joseph hate when Robert has done plenty of shitty things not just relating to Joseph's infidelity. They are alarmingly similarly shitty, but for different reasons. Yet Robert is just a poor precious baby who needs love while Joseph is the worst person ever. I feel people just feel annoyed Joseph stayed with his wife instead of choosing them/the MC.
