That is the selling point of the entire fucking series, you bait the audience into watching by having them guessing when they will see the next step in the relationship, if you give it all to them in a couple of episode in the latter part of the season, there's nothing left to sell, is it?
Nobody would have given two shits about this show if it was a bunch of straight dudes skating around and the creators know it. They saw what the creators of Free! did, why it worked and they applied it here. Nobody gives a shit about swimming or ice skating.

Of course the staff and writers wont say shit either way, they cant reveal their product when it's in high demand.
The second they see the ratings drop, they will write a episode where everyone involved buttfucks eachother on a giant wedding cake and call it the day. On to the next thing.
