Griffith also spitefull, jealous and pulls a dead Miki kinda thing, reincarnated as an angel, does the whole ride naked on a beast like satan and ends up alone for everything he's done.
He's obviously a homage, just that he's less nice, hasn't tried to make amends for what he's done. Kaworu probably monopolized all of Satans nicer traits.
